The Science
Evidence & Mechanism
Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the activity of endogenous GLP-1. It binds to GLP-1 receptors in the brain, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract, helping to regulate appetite, slow gastric emptying, promote glucose-dependent insulin secretion and support metabolic health. These combined effects contribute to weight management and overall cardiometabolic benefits observed in human clinical research.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Questions, Answered.
Find quick answers to common questions about this Product.
Semaglutide activates the GLP-1 receptor, a hormone-signalling pathway involved in appetite and glucose control. In STEP 1, adults with overweight or obesity without diabetes lost an average of 14.9% of starting weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% with placebo. Both groups received lifestyle support. The findings concern the clinical formulation and study population.
Controlled appetite research has examined semaglutide’s effects on hunger, eating control and energy consumed at a test meal. These outcomes help explain its weight-management effects. However, a percentage reduction in meal intake is not the same as a percentage reduction in “food noise.” Food-related thoughts need their own defined questions, measurement period and comparison group.
Tirzepatide produced greater average weight loss than semaglutide in the direct SURMOUNT-5 trial in adults without diabetes. Comparisons involving retatrutide or cagrilintide often come from different studies or test a combination. Those results should not be presented as a universal ranking. Receptor counts alone do not determine effectiveness, safety or the best option for an individual.
Nausea and diarrhea were common in STEP 1, and gastrointestinal events led some participants to discontinue treatment. Trial averages do not predict every person’s response or establish long-term effects for a supplier’s research vial. Published clinical results, laboratory purity and the quality of a particular finished medicine answer separate questions.
